Collection: How I Packed for a 3-Night Winter Escape to Port Fairy Using Just Nine Pieces
There’s something liberating about travelling with less.
For a recent three-night getaway to Port Fairy, I challenged myself to pack only pieces I genuinely love wearing rather than filling a suitcase with "just in case" options.
The result? A small collection of comfortable, versatile pieces that took me from waterfront walks and shopping trips to afternoon drinks and dinners out, all without feeling like I was wearing the same outfit on repeat.
Keeping It Simple
Rather than packing complete outfits, I packed pieces that worked together.
My colour palette stayed consistent with black, denim blue, grey, navy and soft neutrals. Every top worked with every bottom, and every jacket layered effortlessly over the outfits beneath.
My weekend wardrobe included:
Black wide-leg jeans
Light blue jeans
Dark denim mini skirt
Black skivvy
Grey V-neck vest
Lace layering top
Long denim coat
Navy coat
Green camo jacket
Black biker boots
Taupe boots
Black crossbody bag
Black scarf
The Pieces I Reached For Most
Without question, the black skivvy became the hero of the weekend.
It paired effortlessly with jeans for daytime exploring, worked beautifully under coats for evening dinners, and looked equally at home with the denim mini skirt and tights for drinks out.
The long denim coat was another unexpected favourite. It instantly made casual outfits feel more styled while remaining practical and comfortable for walking around town.
Daytime Exploring
Port Fairy is a town best explored slowly.
The light blue jeans, grey vest and lace layering top became my favourite outfit for wandering the shops, stopping for coffee, and walking along the waterfront.
Finished with biker boots and a relaxed jacket, it felt comfortable without sacrificing style.
Afternoon Drinks
One of the easiest ways to refresh a simple outfit is by changing your outer layer.
Adding the denim coat and scarf over a casual daytime look created an effortless transition from exploring town to afternoon drinks.
Dinner Out
Evenings called for slightly more polished combinations.
The black skivvy paired with wide-leg jeans and the navy coat felt timeless and sophisticated, while the denim mini skirt, thick black tights and biker boots created a relaxed but elevated dinner outfit.
Proof that you don't need a suitcase full of clothes to feel dressed for different occasions.
What I Learned
The pieces that worked hardest weren't necessarily the newest pieces in my wardrobe.
They were the reliable favourites I reach for time and time again.
Packing light isn't about restriction. It's about choosing pieces that make getting dressed easy.
For me, this Port Fairy getaway was a reminder that a few well-loved pieces can take you almost anywhere.
And when you're spending less time worrying about what to wear, there's more time to enjoy where you are.
Because sometimes the best trips aren't about packing more.
They're about carrying less and experiencing more.
